Downvotes bug the fuck out of me. How do You all deal with it so well ? Any tips / advice ?

You can tell which post here hit the all feeds because everyone is downvoted heavily. I’m not a republican but I don’t think the fediverse is very good for political discourse. There are a disproportionate amount of people who come from marginalized communities and because of that have their guard up and take political disagreements as personal attacks.
As much as people don’t want to admit it, the downvote button will always be used as a disagree button.

I upvote if it adds value. I downvote if it doesn’t. It’s not if I agree or disagree. I upvoted some hexbear comments because they were cited and well written. Didn’t agree with it all but it was a true attempt to have a dialogue.

People downvote here without ever commenting. They even downvote posts that get tons of upvotes in other communities. That’s how ideological people can be.
I have a couple people who follow me and downvote every comment, it’s pretty entertaining.
Imagine having such a hardon for someone to follow them to downvote all their comments. It happens like clockwork. Must not have a day job if they have time for that kind of stuff, lol.

Im just blown away at the fact you’re so upset about downvotes and someone saying they downvoted you because ‘you aren’t welcome’. Just like my “straw man” point stated above; that is the equivalent of someone disagreeing with you or not wanting to participate in a conversation that they view as “wrong”.
Not everyone who disagrees with you is obligated to get into a full blown debate mode in order to have the privilege to downvote. If everyone did that then you would probably complain that you’re getting invaded or something silly.
Ultimately if you like or agree with something then up vote and if you don’t like or disagree then downvote. Seems pretty fair to me. And please don’t come at me and say ‘just ignore the post’. That’s weak sauce attitude and I ain’t interested in that.
