buying a hospital (system I guess?) in order to sell off all the equipment and property and rent it back until they're bankrupt is just so cartoonishly evil, wtf

Some Mitt Romney bullshit right there.
That's how a lot of venture capital places operate when they buy anything. I'm pretty sure that's what red lobster is doing. It happened to an MSP I used to work at (about two thirds of our clients were hospitals or clinics, for whatever that's worth). Doing it with a hospital system is just extra especially vile rather than the normal amount of vile.
That's exactly what happened to companies like Red Lobster and Circuit City.
Pretty much any company that hires Boston Consulting Group.
They even have a cartoonishly ironic name.

I hope Bernie goes on fighting for the rest of his days. After Jimmy Carter is gone, there aren't too many political elders to look up to and remind us there are(were?) some good politicians out there.
Jimmy Carter was/is a wonderful human being, but it seems most people would not consider him to be a good politician. Unfortunately.
Carter was before my time, but so I've read about him, or at least his personal efforts seem positive. From a quick skim of his wiki, he seems to have had some notable accomplishments, but was hindered greatly by a mountain of unfortunate world events out of his control, and he did not seem to do politics by the good 'ol boy methods of the day, so he did not have much support from either side of the aisle.
It sounds more like he was unable to be effective, which probably does make one a bad politician, but I feel like since his time in office, more and more people seem to want someone who isn't there to play party politics and who will just try to get things done because they're things we should be doing.
Based off of all his work I can remember in my lifetime, post presidency, I'm inclined to believe he was a decent guy back then also. Especially by today's standards!
He was definitely a decent man. Which is probably why he was largely ineffective as a political operator.
That's the paradox isn't it? The people who have the integrity to lead either have no interest in it, or are just too kind-hearted to think in terms of real politik, which is necessary for world leaders to do at times.
Agreed.

"Now we're takin names, bitches"
It does seem like that was definitely a part of it. It seems he developed issues with Ted Kennedy and lost most of the support of his own party, and without anyone backing him, he severely limited himself from the sound of things.
This is why it's probably not a great situation if we do end up becoming too enamored with any one politician in general.
Go Bernie. I would still vote for you.
I hope he doesn't show up, because the Capitol's jail cell might just be a rumor, but people have definitely been kept in detention in rooms there more than once.

Cherish her while you can because she has to leave Congress by Jan 2025 (due to her losing her battle for a Senate seat in 2024).
