Probably inspired by Donkey Kong - Jungle or anything associated with jungles are just jazz now

blame Tarzan, that was the first assosciation of bongo drums with the Jungle

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That or Civilization by Danny Kaye and The Andrews Sisters.

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

I love that song though

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Yeah, but it's still a bop. Soken usually sticks to the tropes, but after fighting things like fairy kings and bug dudes to very... unique boss themes, I think he gets a pass.

(I wonder if it was scored to be a "America" style theme. Would make more sense, lol)

[–] GreatAlbatross@feddit.uk 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think he might have watched The Emperor's New Groove.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I did feel like the main theme that plays during certain montages had a bit of a 90s feel to it. Probably the use of a choir. Lol

When I try to think of stereotypical "American" music, it's always either this, Trace Adkins, or Earl Scruggs. Soken made the right choice with Bones Malone and The Spooky Boys.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Oof, can you imagine a Trace Adkins style town theme. I can stand that of it music, haha.

Then again, you know Soken must have at least thought about it for the Western areas, complete with Koji Fox doing a fake twangy accent singing about booze, his ride, and those cow analogue things you can ride.

"We like the paiiiin..... we like the paiiiiiin..... we like the paiiiin.... we like...... pain"
"pain.......pain......."

SHUT THE FUCK UP

[–] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Y-you shut your whore mouth right now! This is one of the jewels of that entire soundtrack.

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

and who could forget:

"... nowhere to run.... I'll rub your bum.... EVERYTHING BURNS.... EVERYTHING BURNS..."

or

"... cuz it makes me feel better..." x 1000

I will say that I do completely like the "Lift me Up" song. It rewards the general drudgery with intermittent tranquil harmony

[–] Klear@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Cartesian Duelists are the best. Also love me some TRAUMA.

[–] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

See you just have to find the thing that works for you. For me, I just love the variety and the odd little surprises (most of the stuff you can hear on the OST vol. 1)

And if I don't like it, I just shoot every goddamn speaker and radio in sight. That usually does the trick.

Amen

[–] Klear@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I will have none of that. That soundtrack is the best thing about the game.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

With either 90s techno or 80s synths in another track.

[–] DJDarren@thelemmy.club 6 points 2 months ago

And the music speeds up when you start running out of air.

[–] elvith@feddit.org 5 points 2 months ago

Thanks, now it's theme song is stuck in my head again.

[–] LucasWaffyWaf@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Now that's a name I haven't heard for a looooong time.

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

Or PTSD from that dam.

It almost sounds wrong without the hit markers and low-health beeps.

Dark underground levels: just random eerie background sounds

I recommend viewing this for the most immersive la hee experience

[–] rtxn@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Soken survived cancer while also composing one of the best songs for the single best story arc. He gets a free La Hee.

What level/level design would use Kpop?

Discuss

[–] AhismaMiasma@lemm.ee 21 points 2 months ago

Inner city/theme park area, especially if it's nighttime with lots of neon. Maybe a carnival pier.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I need to work on my education.

I know what drums are and I think the xylophone is a wooden glockenspiel.

[–] Doombot1@lemmy.one 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Tbh I’m surprised you know what a glockenspiel is but not a xylophone, lol (For the record… it’s pretty much just a bigger glockenspiel, yeah)

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Everybody knows what a glockenspiel is.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

If this was real, the poster would have just listed the General MIDI program numbers.

[–] abs_mess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 months ago

SHP9500? Nice.

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

Hiroki Kikuta: Everything vaguely polynesian somehow.

[–] dsilverz@thelemmy.club 3 points 2 months ago

I dunno... It slightly remembers me of Terraria soundtracks. Or RuneScape. I played them a long time ago, so I can't exactly remember.
