Americans who live in straw and stick houses: "That big bad wolf won't blow down my house!"

Workers for capitalism

[–] infinite_ass@leminal.space 2 points 42 minutes ago

Call the sheep dumb but maybe they just don't take the reports of the wolf seriously. I mean, this little box tells me all kinds of stories. Aliens. Spaceships. Monsters. One gets jaded.

Children's stories are often seeds of critical thinking sown in growing minds.

[–] VantaBrandon@lemmy.world 29 points 9 hours ago (3 children)

Trump could shoot someone on 5th avenue, eat their corpse, shit himself, murder a puppy with his bare hands while screaming ALLAH AKBAR and STILL mother fuckers would vote for him just for lower egg prices

We are the dumbest fucking country on the planet

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 18 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

And egg prices will still go up.

Catastrophicly so.

[–] AngryRobot@lemmy.world 1 points 20 minutes ago

People don't seem to understand how bad deflation is.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 0 points 9 hours ago

You didn't really need to add the bigoted bullshit and just as reference "god is great" was and is still a warcall of Christians.

[–] shadowfax13@lemmy.ml -3 points 9 hours ago (3 children)

maybe you should try to live at 2000$ a month in nyc while renting. you will quickly understand why so many didn’t vote or voted trump after hearing peak cringe & farce from dnc for months. ii am very sure they wanted to shoot harris every time some celeb endorsement was thrown at their face. but keep living in your bubble if ignorance.

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 12 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Harris was the path of things slowly getting better. Wages finally overtaking inflation.

Given a couple years, we would all be in a better place.

Trump's tariffs will drive up the price of everything. The last few years of inflation and greed will pale in comparison.

[–] shadowfax13@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 hour ago

we are still on orange bad pivot rather than discussing we(dnc) need to become better. and harris has only shifted right with each day to election, dnc wouldn’t have given a fig about inflation or genocide once their strategy of “so what, not like you have an option” had succeeded 2nd time.

i wouldn’t be surprised many of the rage bait posts mocking inflation everywhere rn are superpacs attempting to divert attention from actual reforms in dnc.

[–] OpenPassageways@lemmy.zip 8 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Don't worry I'm sure the billionaire convicted fraudster who hasn't divested from his NYC real estate will reduce your NYC rent prices. He would never use the presidency to enrich himself and his businesses. What was that about a bubble of ignorance?

[–] shadowfax13@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 hours ago

anger is not ignorance. harris lost because no-one wanted to vote for dnc but still most did because the alternative was trump. enough people who voted blue in 2020 didn’t care for her bullshit and with time the percentage of people fed up with both parties is only going to increase because oligarchs will rather burn the country than make precedent of empowering working class.

the current situation will look like a dream when we start having mass riots everywhere because most liberals still care more about their lifestyle luxuries rather than others necessity.

I don't have a dog in the fight; I live elsewhere, but it's baffling to see voters vote for someone who actively caters to the corporations and rich that exploit the average American. Criminal record and very questionable ethics aside, choosing to elect someone to pour more gas on fire doesn't seem like the right solution

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 1 points 34 minutes ago* (last edited 32 minutes ago)

They're not. Our information pipe is just totally broken, people literally have no idea Trump is like this.

I don't know what your country is like, but phone apps have basically eaten a lot of my family, and others I know. Sure there are some bible thumpers and such, but mostly it's just... complete ignorance. An information diet of pure Facebook, tiktok, discord or whatever.

But my mom is still very sane and sharp, and by sheer coincidence, she has no idea how to use Facebook or any social media.

but it's baffling to see voters vote for someone who actively caters to the corporations and rich that exploit the average American. Criminal record and very questionable ethics aside,

but there is no alternative for us. dnc does the same while lying to our face. the horrifying genocide in gaza showed people that dnc is also pure evil thus negating one thing they had going for years.

miller and blinken have laughed at journalists questioning gaza while harris compared genocide to grocery prices that infact have more than doubled in last four years under dnc. they basically gaslight us on every issue and deflect any criticism as “orange worse, we are your only choice peasant”.

they have actively sabotaged any political reform weakening the two party system and this time they even ran a mass smearing campaign vs green party. they are the same as gop but with a different marketing strategy. if anything dnc is worse as they pretend to be saint while pimping for megacorps & burning kids for few millions of aipac money.

Like the emperors new cloths was suppose to be a stop gaurd against someone like trump. Nope. The only fairy tales we subscribe to are bible^tm^ and they need to be predigested by a guy who touches little boys.

Sad thing is, the person who read me the emperors new clothes is the one gobbling his knob.

Wisdom is probably a very real feature of society we need and depend on. I think with the suddenness of all the technological advancement the wisdom we needed to have in place just wasn't there.

It's almost like the reason there isn't any visitors in a universe filled with life is knowledge cannot advance as fast as intelligence.

The mother and I made the same expression 2 days ago

[–] exasperation@lemm.ee 37 points 1 day ago

This reminds me of the boy who cried wolf. Eventually the boy cries wolf too many times, townspeople stop listening to the boy, and stop responding to the cries.

The way we tell it, though, is that the boy is falsely crying wolf each time. And the townspeople eventually learn their lesson and stop responding.

One hypothetical that I always think about is what if the boy is correct each time, and there really is a wolf every time? Well, I think the townspeople would eventually grow numb to the cries and stop responding anyway, and kinda leave the boy to fend for himself because they're sick of helping him. We'd see the same result even if the boy did nothing wrong.

I’m so glad I’m not missing out on a slightly larger margin.

[–] VantaBrandon@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago

Literally, and by that I mean, YES that is the face I was making

Some combination of dread, denial, fear, anxiety and a general sense that shit is about to hit the fan

The time to post this was a week ago.

This is definitely a repost.

[–] TheObviousSolution@lemm.ee 53 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This comic is several decades old by now. This means her daughter is now all grown up and voting Trump now.

[–] VantaBrandon@lemmy.world 4 points 10 hours ago

She's reading a book as a child, likely went to college and voted Harris/Walz like a good non-nazi citizen

I'm trying to cope

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I told you not to vote for the Sheep-Eating Wolves Party!

[–] KomfortablesKissen@discuss.tchncs.de 28 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The choice was between a very selective sheep herder and a very nonselective sheep eater. Not wanting to watch some of the sheep get all the good stuff, they decided on the sheep eater. While being exceptionally cruel to them, this one is also being exceptionally cruel towards the sheep favoured by the herder, so in their perspective, not much was lost.
