“U.S. Central Command forces conducted multiple airstrikes on numerous Iran-backed Houthi weapons storage facilities within Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen,” a U.S. defense official said.

The defense official said the weapons were used to “target military and civilian vessels navigating international waters throughout the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.”

But the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden aren’t anywhere near US territory.

Theyre highly important trade routes and have been for millenia, they are very much in everyone’s domestic interest to keep safe and stable. Its easiest to just throw the US Navy at it since one biggest Navy by a country mile and two easier than organising a multinational effort for it.

This is quite literally the type of shit the US Navy exists for, it was created for dealing with Barbary pirates fucking with trade. Also Sweden was there for some reason.

Well, it’s just a good thing the good guys are the ones with the biggest navy. Let’s hope it stays that way forever.

The Houthis not only shot at ships, they captured ships and still hold their crew hostage. That’s piracy and attacking trade routes in international waters. Of course that can’t go unanswered. So far the answer was pretty restrained. It took a long time until ground targets in Yemen were even attacked. At first the focus was on missile defense.

Like I said, it’s a good thing the good guys have the world’s largest navy so they can police these waters.

US blowing up brown people somewhere in the world is hardly breaking news.

It’s every Tuesday for the last 23 years.
