Yes, there are plenty of problems with Trump, MAGA, and the Republican party, but it’s very obvious that Trump’s supporters are genuine and enthusiastic with their support. The only recent thing comparable on the (D) side was with Bernie, but the DNC made sure that didn’t happen. I have not met anyone with genuine enthusiasm for Clinton, Biden, or Harris (at least not without it being some form of “well, (s)he’s better than Trump”). The people leading the DNC would rather keep whatever power they can in the party, even if it means losing elections, than step back and listen to what voters truly want.

Compromise only “worked” to avoid war, though. It didn’t work too well for the slaves. I guess my question really should’ve been…was slavery so firmly established as a “right” by this point that war was inevitable if slavery in the US was to end? If Buchanan had worked out some new compromise, it wouldn’t have been a permanent solution. My guess is that it would’ve meant a delayed, but bloodier war because of an even stronger sense of entitlement from the South.

I’m not too knowledgeable of Buchanan’s role specifically in the events leading up to the war, and I’m not asking this as some attempt to defend him, but so many times I’ve read something along the lines of “Buchanan consistently ranks at/near the bottom because of his failure to find a compromise to prevent the Civil War”.

Was there really a compromise to be had in regard to slavery? What would that have been? Let some states peacefully secede because the whole country couldn’t agree on slavery? Set up some legal guidelines/restrictions on slavery if they stay in the Union?

I can’t see how anyone in office at that time, Buchanan or not, would’ve avoided a war without allowing slavery to continue. I’m sure there are Constitutional experts out there that could explain how secession could work when there are significant differences amongst major segments of the population. But the conversation is different when you’re talking about inbred rednecks that are willing to die for their “right” to own other people.

The delegates/DNC are responsible here, not the media. If they’re all going to support Harris without any debate, the media can’t be faulted for reporting it.

I agree with the sentiment though. Harris has a lot of problems on her record and couldn’t even make it to Iowa in 2020. That she has enough connections to get picked as VP anyway doesn’t mean she has to be the default nominee.

I haven’t done any Uber driving for quite some time and never did DoorDash at all, so keep in mind this information may not be valid…

From what I could see, Uber never took a cut of the tip, so app vs cash shouldn’t matter…but…I would still prefer cash, because I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Uber did, in fact, take a cut. Though more importantly, just make sure you tip one way or another. There was something clearly faulty with how Uber calculated their fees for food as opposed to passengers. I did a few Uber Eats deliveries, but turned it off once I saw how little it paid. $2-4 for 30-40 minutes was ridiculous, and it only gets worse if you have any problems (food wasn’t ready…or the customer has you bring it to their door which could be on the 8th floor of their apt building…oh, and you can’t park at the apt building without being a resident…or maybe the Uber Eats driver before you grabbed your order). I strongly discourage using Uber Eats unless you’re prepared to tip very, very well. Uber is barely paying them. I was only occasionally driving for Uber for extra cash around my full-time job, but there are people that are taking every ride that comes up because it’s their only income. Until compensation in the food service industry is fundamentally reworked, always tip well.

We have two cats that are obsessed with bread. Can’t leave any out without them fairly quickly chewing through the wrapping to eat the bread. We’ve had quite a few cats over the years, but have never seen that type of weirdness before.

I’d say that’s mainly a consequence of needing to produce so many episodes per season, not an indication that there were no stories left for the characters.
