So c/piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com doesn’t even break that rule. It’s for discussion. Unless you take a very broad reading of not allowing the sharing of resources that could be used to pirate copyrighted material, but that’s not an issue anywhere else

Some of us made our accounts on lemmy.world within a week(?) of its creation when it was tiny (June 5 for me). Doesn’t stop it from belonging on mildly infuriating

If you’re going to break it down that far, why stop? Your “self” is not your central nervous system, but a portion of it - and not a very large one. It’s your consciousness. Most of what your nervous system does is not conscious.

Your self (and mine) are but a small portion of a single organ in a large network of organs and tissues and cells and bacteria. We developed because it was advantageous for our bodies - which predate our consciousness - to have pilots. We are periphery. We are a single part of an ecosystem. And definitely not the center of it

Change your sort options. Your lemmy experience will change drastically depending on whether you’re sorting by hot, active, top, etc.

At least lemmy has lots of mirrored communities so if one starts to suck you can go to a smaller one with the same topic

Absolutely agree, got a big crush on Cap so I like to imagine he’s too tuned into the purest version of the 🇺🇸American spirit🇺🇸 to hate. But it is funny to suspend that and think about what if he was just a grumpy old man

That’s the easiest way to make complex villains, give them a relatable goal with terrible means. Activates the good old “do the ends justify the means” question and tempts the audience. The best superhero movies give the hero a strong moral backbone to “save” the audience and find the truth between the two. Look at how Black Panther learns from Killmonger’s criticism but does it without war and hatred

Edit: Also The Batman is pretty solid with this aspect. He sees how his quest for revenge encourages violent vigilantism and inspires the incel-like Riddler. Because of this he decides to turn toward hope and helping others instead

Are you me? Pretty much the same story. Still a lot of nostalgia for that movie.

As I understand it a lot of Godzilla fans mainly hate it because it diverges so much from traditional Godzilla. Which I get but what a lame reason to hate a movie

That scene at Medieval Times when Carrey does that great rendition of the fight music from Star Trek.

It’s always been interesting to me how relevant movies from the 90s and early 2000s make Star Trek seem at that time. Cable Guy and Wayne’s World both come to mind as movies that make multiple, occasionally obscure Trek references. I was born in 96 and watch a fair amount of Trek but it just doesn’t feel as relevant in my generation :/

I always look at it as:

Critics judge craftsmanship. Audiences judge enjoyment.
