I am the parent of a queer girl. There is no way I can justify staying and risking her being taken away and put in some conversion therapy camp. Or just have to be in the closet she’s never been in and never find love except in secret. In fact, due to the internet being forever, she can’t even really go into the closet if she needed to.

Meanwhile, Britain is working to outlaw conversion therapy with cross-party support. It’s safer for her there.

Children owe their parents nothing; they didn’t ask to be born. Parents owe their child everything. I would never, ever forgive myself if we stayed when we had the option to leave and something bad happened to her because of it.
