Just declassified: US senator caught up in Section 702 FBI surveillance dragnet::Still, judge finds ‘reason to believe’ Feds are getting better at not abusing snooping powers
No mention of who they actually are and why the FBI was surveiling them?
It was collected as part of a dragnet - they weren’t surveilling them specifically. The FBI just attempts to illegally surveil US citizens, breaking the Fourth Amendment.
This time, it just happened to hit a senator
Although the one using the SSN looks like a flat out abuse of power.
It looks like at least one of the other ones was trying to protect the senator, not actually target them.
Every dragnet is a flat out abuse of power, but you’re right the SSN went farther
