I've never blocked someone except bots, so I'm wondering what your reasons are to block people. In my experience trolls/people who argument in bad faith lost interest quickly when I didn't respond.

Anyone who worsens my experience in life that I have the availability to simply remove at the click of a button.

That's my requirement.

[–] Lennard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago

That's fair I guess. Sad that this isn't possible in real life

Anyone who says North Korea is the best korea, denies tiannmen square, thinks russia is justified in taking ukraine, and has a lemmy.ml ueername is an instant block from me

[–] Lennard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

I've come across people that deny climate change (and ignored them), but this is another level of fucked up :0

True that but they'll keep reappearing

[–] YeetPics@mander.xyz 3 points 3 months ago

That's okay, as of today blocking Lemmy users is not a paid service.

The only drawback involves arthritis or carpal tunnel issues.

most recently someone blocked me because I said there are multiple interpretations of the Dao De Jing and they shouldn't shut someone down for finding their own path.

[–] xilliah@beehaw.org 3 points 3 months ago

Lol some people have some really strange ideas about de Dao de Jing. It takes a lifetime of studying to understand, so clearly there are multiple layers and aspects to it. What's absolutely hilarious to me is that people later decided it was a good idea to build a dogmatic religion around it 🤷🏻‍♀️

if interacting with someone is like having a rock in my shoe, I block them.

Women on the internet: I'm harassed every day!
Men on the internet: *coming in hoards* never happened to me, so obv ur a *slur* and you deserve it

[–] xilliah@beehaw.org 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It's true though I'm a total *slur*

[–] graphito@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 months ago

If I agree with you, it's harassment. If I disagree with you, you'd block me. So, I'll just say imo you're one beautiful *slur* and I'm glad you're so humble to acknowledge&embrace your own limitations 🤍

If the conversation starts with calling liberals "blue conservatives" or calling person or group a fascist then I'm out.

I don't want to heard your crazy political views.

I don't block people much.

If I get my mind changed on something, that's cause for celebration. One step closer to agreeing with reality.

And if it's just someone out to screw with people, that's fun, too. Get under their skin, set up shop and make a home. Make them block you.

It's like wasting the time of phone scammers. Every second they spend on you is a second they aren't spending on someone else.

[–] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I don't block because I disagree, I block because I'm just sick of seeing certain topics.

"China is a Utopia and the US is the devil"

[–] xilliah@beehaw.org 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Did you know a lot of fediverse apps have filters? Made my life considerably better.

[–] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 months ago

I don't like Blanket filters, if rather remove the nonsense myself just incase the filter sucks at doing what it's intended too

[–] MindTraveller@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

You really think someone would do that? Just go on the internet and disagree with me?

[–] bleistift2@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Waah! People on facebook are all braindead because they refuse to get out of their bubbles!

someone disagrees with them

blocks user

[–] nicknonya@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

there's a rather large difference between not wanting to engage in good faith with any alternative viewpoint and not wanting to engage with a single bad faith actor.
one is a misogynist refusing to listen to any feminist talking points because it's all woke and/or libtard and/or feminazi trash while the other is a minority telling someone to fuck themselves because they don't want to 'debate' their right to exist

[–] xilliah@beehaw.org 1 points 3 months ago

"Debate", not debate.

[–] off_brand_@beehaw.org 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

the internet is just... Such a shitty venue for these conversations. I have friends in the real world who disagree with me. If someone is being nasty online I feel no compunction to spend the brainpower on them. Especially as I continue to struggle with the deluge of bad news and it's affect on my mental health.

Block away, for your own health and well-being.

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 2 points 3 months ago

completely agree. One thing I hope the federation gets to is as much fine grained control for the user as possible. One thing I like with trustcafe is they have this trust level. 0 is essentially block, 100 is essentially subscribe and the levels between will prioritize them in your feed one direction or another.
