There should be a “shower thoughts mode” in the shower so after you clean yourself, the current water used in the shower is recycled and reheated. In this way you can keep shower thinking without wasting water cc @showerthoughts@lemmy.world
Basting mode.
Someone should invent one for the oven.
Well, a per unit gray water recycle system should be part of each residence.
I’m going to guess in most parts of the world heating water is a bigger expense vs getting clean water.
You could choose to feel guilty about wasting heat energy, or just enjoy it knowing the energy had already been spent heating the water for you to enjoy. But screw fresh water! Waste away! It’ll stay in the water cycle
If you have some form of a tankless water heater, you still win on heat recovery too…
I’m not sure about that. Even wealthy countries can have water problems in times of drought. I grew up during the Millennium Drought in Australia, we had major water restrictions and major campaigns to try to get people to do things like take shorter showers. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000s_Australian_drought
And that’s in a wealthy nation with well-developed infrastructure. Countless places around the world have neither of those, and I’m sure lots of people in those places would love the luxury of a long shower without wasting water.
Then I’d just be spraying myself with dirty water.
Especially on waffle stomp day
You should try bath thoughts instead
This could be a variation on the traditional Japanese bath. The way that works is you fill up a tub and use this big ladle thing to pour water over yourself and wash up outside the bath. (The whole bathroom floor is tiled and has a drain in the middle.) Then, once clean, you can climb into the bath and warm up.
I remember thinking when I was in Japan that you could replace the ladle with some sort of pump that draws water out of the tub and runs it through a shower head. Then you can take a short regular shower before climbing into the bath. But now, if you cleaned up and then stepped into the bath with the shower head dumping into the tub, you would effectively have “shower thoughts mode” right?
Ka-chow one of these bad boys can be yours for the low low price of moving to denmark https://flow-loop.com/
i think there are others on the market, but my drive to google has faded into the distant past.
The LOOP shower comes with a unique IoT solution that collects data about each and every shower. This makes it possible to follow the water savings using a log-in to our online savings module.

This is pretty interesting. Can’t wait to do 3 minutes of “research” and completely forget about it.
@alvaro @showerthoughts And then pump it through a secondary shower head, from the other direction, so that it is always blasting in two directions without wasting too much water.
You basically want this:

U wot m8? You want to heat and recycle the water that you already used to clean your filthy body? I think a treatment system should be in play somewhere in this scenario lol
No he wants a switch, so its like you finish washing and rinsing but just want to be in there without wasting water longer so start reusing “clean” water now.

Fair point. I haven’t had one of those in so long I’ve forgotten.
@Lifecoach5000@lemmy.world what part of “after you clean yourself” is not clear?
Fair enough. I would certainly take longer showers if it was just as sanitary… but I wonder if that’s a good or bad thing too. It is interesting interacting with you across fediverse platforms though! I’ve been here for 9 months and that still trips me out.

This…is actually an interesting idea. It wouldn’t do much to help energy use problems, but that will have to be addressed in other, broader ways, anyhow.
Also probably not super feasible in existing houses/bathrooms, but I wonder what would be possible in new constructions.
Or you could buy a bath tub
That doesn’t reheat the water
I’m sure you can get a heated tub much like how you can get a heated pool. Probably cost a fuckton tho.
You can, and they do. Hot tubs at least allow many reuses between water changes, and any quality model is well insulated and operates relatively cheap, especially so in warmer climates.
IDK why hot tubs didn’t even occur to me. lol
You have to plug it in
To the toaster?
We’re making soup now.
