Fifteen months into the regulatory review process, Figma and Adobe no longer see a path toward regulatory approval of our proposed acquisition.

Shot down by the CMA. Absolutely based.

Adobe must’ve been sure it’d get through because their own competing software has had barely any updates in the past year. Sucks to be them I guess.

I don’t like the lack of a native app on Figma. Also, the lack of offline files.

But it wasn’t Adobe. So fuck them.

Then I heard they were buying Figma and that was the last straw. I switched to Lunacy (by icons8). It’s got a native app for Windows, works offline AND supports Figma project importing 😁😁😁. I miss the Figma plugin store, NGL. But I can just add stuff to a Figma project and then import into Lunacy at this point 😂

believe me, if they were Adobe you can kiss that “save local copy” feature goodbye, and they’ll say : well it’s cloud based, you don’t need local files

Both Figma and Lunacy have their drawbacks and advantages, Lunacy is great if you’re an asset hoarder, ( there’s also the licensing problems, that’s why its best to stick to open source assets )

Lunacy has Pichon which unfortunately doesn’t have a linux version, I wanted to use Linux, so that’s why I picked Figma

When I first heard the news I immediately signed up to Penpot, it has potential and can be selfhosted so you can own your files

I didn’t know about any licensing problems with Lunacy.

Penpot I’m waiting for the desktop app. It’s dope and I await the native apps 🤞🏼

The licensing issues don’t come from Lunacy, they come from the assets you download from the internet, many of them can be used for personal use but not commercial use, so if you design for a client and use a particulate set of icons or illustrations or fonts, the client might come back to you later saying someone emailed them regarding their unauthorized use of their assets, the client might not know what the hell is a copyright claim, theyll be confused, worst yet, frustrated with you

Penpot has a desktop app ( I don’t know if it’s available on Windows ), made by a third party developer

I was very disappointed when Adobe tried to acquire figma, I switched from XD to figma only to minimize my digital experience from Adobe. It’s a great news

I didn’t like the workflow of AdobeXD and the product seemed badly put together, like half offline/half online

Also I wanted to use Linux :-)

Adobe love their money, they buy the competition and tie it to their creative cloud, which means they also love DRM, I was disappointed when they bought that 3D texturing software ( forgot it’s name ) even though I don’t use it, but I hate to see stuff like this happen because it kills innovation

time to revive that buggy adobeXD I guess … xD

AI-butchered headlines are my favorite headlines. After a while of baker and bread baking the bread after fifteen minutes. And how!
