Are you good at concentrating your attention? Of course you are. That’s something that people with ADHD, Aspergers etc can do better than anybody else.

Concentration is a magic power. Attention is the axis of reality. Yes.

That’s a power that you have naturally. You can do it better than everybody else. And with practice you can get even better. There is no limit.

There were groups of people who dedicated their whole life to seeing how deep they could go with concentration. (and there are other things that you can do with your attention too. Things that are even better than concentration.)

For lack of a better term let’s call these people “wizards”.

Their preferred recruits were people with ADHD, Aspergers etc.

Because people with ADHD, Aspergers etc are very good at concentrating their attention.

But you are focusing on this conversation. Is it just luck that we’re having this talk or did you choose to reply?

This is like asking someone: “Are you sure you have a bad heart? You don’t appear to be having a heart attack right this very second.”

Having concentration problems does not mean one can never concentrate. Especially ridiculous to propose in response to such a short comment.

What are you talking about? How on earth did you extrapolate that?

Or did you take the fact that concentration problems aren’t typically constant as a positive trait somehow?

If someone has seizures every hour, it doesn’t make their seizures a positive trait just because they’re not constant.

But we aren’t talking about those things. We’re talking about an affliction of the attention that includes the phenomenon of hyperfocus, which is a pretty amazing power.

Man, you really can’t comprehend analogies, can you?..

I know what hyper-focus is on a personal level as someone with ADHD. I also have a BS in psychology, 6 years experience as a specialized caseworker for adults who are disabled due to serious mental illness, and I was just accepted into a clinical counseling masters of science program.

You are so utterly misguided and this is not only falling flat, but it’s trivializing the symptoms people struggle with. It’s not helpful. In fact, it is the opposite…

Holy shit. This is the most ick fucking cringe reply you could come up with.

This is the reply equivalent of people saying that climate change isn’t real and global warming isn’t happening because it gets cold in winter.
