Just a general thread about running. How’s your running going? What are you training for? Did you get new shoes? Sporting an injury Etc…
Maybe it can be pinned?
Slept terribly, and struggled to get up and go this morning…but ended up feeling very strong and running a PB… 27:02/5k - which I am very happy with. I’m running with the doggo about every 2 days and managing at least 5k a run, slightly longer run for the weekend…
I can’t wait to get back to that speed! I think my PB was like that but a while back. I since took a long break and am just now getting back.
On the other hand my heart rate is lower on average lately. It’s so nice to see my body respond well to getting back at it.
So in other news I’m finally the old guy. I have been running in the evenings lately due to my wife’s schedule and while not a “drug deal” I surprised a bunch of very high teens on a park bench with my headlamp 😂
Also unfortunately no frogs seen 🐸
My excessive cycling and kick boxing is really cutting into the amount I’m running and I’m not sure how I feel about it xD
This is why I avoid other sports. Or hobbies. Or relationships. Or proper meals. Can’t get distracted!
My new shoes arrived today - Asic kayano 30s. I’ll get to break them on Sat, hopefully they’ll make running further easier.
I think my current shoes wore down too much, I was starting to get weird aches and pains.
Got a new windbreaker and during my 40 min test run yesterday I had a whole spectrum of weather conditions to assess its performance. Started with wind and sun, followed by light rain and wind and finished the last part in pouring rain and strong headwind. While not totally dry it kept me comfortably protected. Gonna use it on cold/windy days and as backup on longer runs.
What did you get?
The houdini jacket from Patagonia. Was looking for something light and packable.
The racing season is over for me and now I’ll spend the rest of the year building up miles as I try to hit my goal distance for the 2023. I’m trying not to lose any of the gains from this year by maintaining two speed workouts per week while also increasing mileage. The objective is to avoid injury by doing shorter speed working and slowing way down on the easy miles.
PB for distance, and serenity on the forest track. That hill was a fucker though!
Just wanted to say thank you to this community. I kind of hijacked a post earlier to ask how to get my knees to stop hurting as a beginner at running.
The suggestions of strength training, gait training, better shoes and stretching have made massive differences. I am now running a mile every other day and have very little knee pain. Gonna start upping it to 2 miles here soon.
You guys are awesome.
pfps is back baby and really fucking up my training plan for this: https://jabulanichallenge.com.au/event-info/22km-course/
Idk if I’ll be able to be ready. Taking all of this week off, have been told to that the stuff I was already doing is the right approach to try mitigate this.
Next week I’ll try doing some short runs, I figure even if I’m limited to like 15 minute runs anything will slow deconditioning and I’m very much of the opinion that healing happens best with gentle activity.
I really hope I’m going to be back to it fast, I mean look at that course. a 2 km long hill is hilarious!
I’d just go with a basic Garmin. Forerunner 55 maybe… This link has a good overview of the differences - https://www.runnersworld.com/gear/a36490720/best-garmin-gps-running-watches/
What watch to measure pace, distance and time elapswd would you recomend?
Im not interested in measuring sleep quality or other advanced data, that watch is going to be worn when running only.
I was interested even in g shock gbd 100, while it does not have gps without the phone ( and i like to run light, without a phone ) i know casio is kinda still in a stone age as far as softare goes.
i have had a forerunner 230? cannot remember untill it battery died, never got a proper HR reading with it.
Was thinking about a used fenix but since im out of the loop, thought i ask.
