Is there some secret to this? Either I’m trying to cautiously untangle the plant without breaking any leaves so I can water it in the sink or I’m leaking water all of the floor.

Idk if it’s just me but the image won’t load for some reason. Are you basically watering it gradually enough that it never drains out the bottom of the pot?

Sorry, I just edited the message so you can check it better.

TL;DR: Yes. It’s just a drip system that doesn’t flood the vase.

This works very well in my experience, but I feel like it defies the aesthetic purpose of the macrame.

I have 4 of these. Two of them are the ones that have integrated water catchers and only overflow if they are overwatered. One I’ve put a saucer in with the pot and one I just have to put a towel under it. I’d say the best option is the one with a saucer, you can visibly see that it’s flowed through, you can add gravel to improve humidity.

Some people put ice cubes straight in the pot, so it’s a slower absorption. You could also just have a ‘watering towel’ that you can throw on the floor under the plants if you water them in place? Finally, if you can get them to the sink easily, maybe you could use a glass watering globe to slide through the plant matter?
