I am interested in installing a de-googled android on my phone, but I would like to try it out a little bit first. Is there some way to emulate a phone on my PC, or is there anything like dual booting on phones?

Any data that’s on it is in a private cloud (infomaniak/filen) so that’s not the issue.

Its reinstalling everything, setting it all up, personalising it, etc.

I use this thing a lot and need it for work, so not being able to have a backup that I can use in case it takes longer than expected is a no-go for me.

Yeah I completely get that, I took a week to get to a rudimentary working state and about a month to be content with my configuration with everything else going on in life.

I would recommend making a plan beforehand with what you’ll need to do and then starting on a Friday and battle-proofing everything till Monday if you really depend on it for work. Our life situations unfortunately usually expect us to have a fully “working” smartphone with us with like, a clock app (which GrapheneOS hasn’t pre-installed) that just works etc.

Stuff like this was incredibly annoying, because with e.g. the clock or map example, just not having a “just works” solution pre installed leads to bad situations, like an alarm not ringing when it’s supposed to and stuff like that.

But honestly, this should be easier for you than it was for me, because you already got your go-to open source Android apps– unlike me making the switch directly from iOS.

Just got a OEM unlocked P7P, installed GrapheneOS, I was up and running good as new in like a day. Only downside so far is no Tap payments.

      It’s easier than you think.

My life is sadly busier than I’d like already so adding this on right now just isn’t in the list of options. Good to know tap payments don’t work with GrapheneOS means I’ll have to get a physical card again.
