Why does the allegiance to country matter here? Am I missing something? Would we ask to get news about some silly domestic trend from a non pro-Washington source?

Because it normalises the site as reputable source. Yes, there are most certainly some unbiased articles there, but at the end of the day it is still a propaganda tool. Russia uses the same playbook with RussiaToday: Tons of propaganda and some factual news sprinkled in between, so they can point to those and claim “Its not just propaganda”.

Being pro-Beijing doesn’t just mean an allegiance to China, it means that the media supports the CCP which is an oppressive government that constantly violate human rights.

We say pro-Beijing because it is about the government, not the country.

But tankies always struggle to understand the difference between a government and a country.
