!fuckcars@lemmy.world I guess?
Here in the Netherlands, the news had an item about new years eve and noted that the amount of cars that had been set on fire had increased by 40 compared to last year. It’s weird how this has turned into a statistic
EDIT: Here are the numbers for this year
I’m more interessiert in the 144 Wohnigsbränd, do some people light fireworks inside?
Some probably do, but I suspect it’s more due to people launching fireworks at other people’s homes or start fires that spread to those homes.
60 autos in brand op oudejaar in Brussel ook, en ze wisten dat het zou gebeuren
People still tipping smart cars in the canals too?
I’m not sure, apparently not enough to be newsworthy
Was this some kind of protest or just for fun?
It happens every year. Basically, ever since media started publishing statistics on which city had the most burnt cars on new years eve, some people made it a challenge of which city will “win”
Good. Fuck cars.
Ahh yes I’m sure the people whose cars were burned won’t simply get a new one. This effectively released lots of bad chemicals into the air and did nothing to reduce the number of cars on the road.
Some people won’t have enough money to buy a new car or will always feel insecure in their cars now.
That’s a nice sentiment, dear, but people still need to be able to get to work to survive.
Luckily the Netherlands possess a good cycling Infrastructure and Public Transport
- what the Fuck dude? They still had their stuff destroyed, that’s not okay!
- this is france
Public Transport in Ile de France is very good too
And if nobody had cars, that would be way easier for everyone.
Except chauffeurs. They’ll have to get new jobs.
what about people who do deliveries by car? what will they do?
They can do deliveries by bicycle. It’ll be easy when the population density problem is fixed.

For “fun”, it’s the usual dumbasses that have nothing better to do on New Year
Or any other day of the year. I can’t imagine someone who actually had to work for, say, 20k€ doing that.
You’d be surprised, I used to know some people that could very well do that for shit and giggles. Hence the “used to”…
average day in France
