402·17 hours agoThe crackdown against activists in the UK is getting very serious. If people don’t wake up and push back it may be the beginning of a very dark time.
The conflation of property destruction (especially of extremely wealthy businesses) and violence against people is extremely silly.
142·17 hours agoBiden has backed Israel since Hamas-led gunmen attacked the country in October 2023, killing 1,200 people and taking 250 hostages. Since then, more than 43,500 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed in Gaza, with 2 million displaced people and much of the strip reduced to rubble.
How mysterious. I wonder who killed them?
I realize I misunderstood what you were saying. Yes I agree.
I don’t find Marxism very compelling personally but I agree that material conditions certainly do have their influence on many things, perhaps including this issue.
And yet in local races, primaries, ballot initiatives, progressive candidates and issues all lost. Almost every issue I voted on went the other way. So that has been my experience with California, that it is not very progressive. Admittedly this was a particularly bad election but similar things have happened before.
I know it has that reputation but I really don’t think California is the most progressive state. Maybe Oregon? Vermont? Not sure to be honest.
It’s pretty much just basic liberals here. And lots of fascists but they hide out away from everyone else most of the time.
Only those 75ish million. No more, no less.
Although it’s also worth noting that not everyone who voted for Trump supports everything he does. In fact I suspect most don’t, but they’ve been fooled into thinking his “business acumen” will make their lives materially better.
1·3 days agoYeah I’m not really sure how to overcome this. Maybe povoq is correct that money printing is an easier solution, since it doesn’t require direct participation from the wealthy.
I’m still interested in experimenting with this idea though. Most other forms of wealth besides money have downsides, even gold. Hoarding physical goods is harder to do secretly and requires storage and security costs.

I don’t know why you think this is naive. We might not be able to know or actualize the path the peace but that does not mean it isn’t there.
The present danger doesn’t say anything about what is the most effective way to resist or diffuse this danger. Do you think you have the strength of arms to defeat the US military? Now that I would call naive.
This is just one idea. It is not meant to solve every problem. Though, frankly, I don’t think your critique is very relevant. The poor typically have little or no savings and spend their money immediately. So they should be largely unaffected by this. And increased spending and lending by the more privileged should benefit the poor to some extent, as will the reduction in the wealthy’s spending power.
But yes I think further ideas and programs would be needed to fully solve poverty. This type of currency would easily accommodate a UBI or similar benefit programs since the natural reduction in money supply would solve any issues of inflation typically associated with large direct payments to citizens.
