Engineering is the most chud of all academic fields. Beyond the engineering stemlord aspect, there’s a lot of military money floating around.

There’s some similar things with bio fields and pharmaceutical/bioengineering money.

Yeah, machine learning actually has a ton of very useful applications in things. It’s just predictably the dumbest and most toxic manifestations of it are hyped up in a capitalist system.

I think a degree of shut up and calculate is needed, at least in the beginning. Without a solid math based understanding of the fundamentals, trying to prognosticate on the ‘meaning’ of it is inevitably going to fall into pop-sci style stuff. You’ve gotta know what you’re dealing with a little.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Winnie the Pooh was latched on to so well by Western audiences. The United States is a perennial winner in the racism olympics. Different crowds can draw connections on different parts of stuff.

Thinking people who disagree with you politically are bots or paid posters isn’t a healthy mindset to have.

Going to be real, that’s not what happened. They had a mod in a large community there, that was a chaser, and that was misgendering people. They wouldn’t remove them, so we left. We’ve got a large amount of trans people on our instance and mod team, so we didn’t want to be exposed to that.

It might not be racist in your areas, but I’ve absolutely seen a lot of people be racist with it in the US. A lot of are from there, so I’ll admit we have a perspective bias, but when a large majority of the people we seeing spreading it are from that racist, US grown, bloc of posters, it kind of primes a response to it.
