I am really staring to detest most of the biggies. Amazon. Nestle, google. I’m not even American and I think the health companies need hounding.

CherryLips@lemm.eeto World News@lemmy.world•'It's just insulting': Backlash over Brit's claims of being first woman to solo traverse across Nunavut islandEnglish15·8 days agoAgree great an achievement now tainted by a narcissistic claim. I notice her insta comments are turned off so I guess she has had some backlash. She should have been respectful of the locals and who else has done this.
CherryLips@lemm.eeto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•What If We Made Advertising Illegal?English14·8 days agoInteresting concept. Over the last few decades we have seen cigarettes/vapes alcohol, small plastics etc come under scrutiny as they harm people’s health. But there are physical objects that harm physical health.
Advertising is much more subjective I tend of what constitutes harm, and mental health is again still on the back foot compared to body health.
In some places we have seen bans on cigarette adverting and even bans on cigarettes. So at a small scale it can be implemented.
I loved ads as a kid. It shaped my career, but it’s an out of control monster that needs looking at. I am growing to hate it.

It is. I haven’t done anything yet but I will take a look at women’s stuff. Thanks.
Oh I haven’t seen that. Thank you.
Thanks I might have an attempt. Gotta be in it to win it.
I think some low energy crafting and reusing. I have found in recent years Insta etc has made crafts and creative tinkering into a competition for perfection. I like tinkering making etc for relaxation, and not out buying more crap to fill my house. There are still plenty of forums and blogs out there too it’s just tough trawling through all the crap. Plus sometimes it’s good to have a place to just throw out a question. Has anyone tried this? What was the result etc.

I have been thinking of starting something up. Is there a guide? Mines pretty boring but I might attract a few other simple craft geeks.
CherryLips@lemm.eeto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Internet forums are disappearing because now everything is Reddit and Discord. And that's worrying.English4·20 days agoIt feels inevitable. You stay sane and protect your inner peace. I am in the camp this is not left/right old/young this is rich playing with the poor. There are far more of us and we have a lot of common language.
CherryLips@lemm.eeto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Internet forums are disappearing because now everything is Reddit and Discord. And that's worrying.English2·20 days agoAgree. It’s easy to feel disheartened by the lack of action. It’s easy to say get out and do ABC, however since smartphones and apps it’s been so easy to just hop on and scroll/consume. Plus the monetisation of content creation has captured a whole generation looking to build a career (fuelled by more apps to help them). Sharing and creating is big money now. It’s not just about saying hey look I did this just incase anyone else wanted to try it, and share there thoughts on the matter. I have concerns that even if forums popped up in a new shape they would just get scalped by those looking to repackage and sell the info.
CherryLips@lemm.eeto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Internet forums are disappearing because now everything is Reddit and Discord. And that's worrying.English3·21 days agoI have been questioning in the last few month what can i do, i agree, the old internet is not the way, but for me tech and the internet has become a dirty word and somewhere i no longer want to be.
I have become quite conscious of my where my money goes, i also probs need to be more conscious of where my internet traffic goes and where i can support grassroots (online) communities.
CherryLips@lemm.eeto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Internet forums are disappearing because now everything is Reddit and Discord. And that's worrying.English2·21 days agoI have been considering it. Not sure what on. I love to craft, make reuse, there are a few here but i guess there could be space for more.

Amazon has been the easiest to get rid of for me. I just stopped buying shit. I’d rather do without than continue supporting this. My Alexa’s got dumped. I just need to replace my firestick and I am done.
