Plus, with their tunnelling feature, they’re helping to keep you private. If you just pointed your A record to your IP, that’d be visible to everyone. Instead, your A record is just visible to Cloudflare. Plus it’s handy if you’re using them to forward a bunch of services onto the net. Not to mention all the other security features you can use. DNS records by design, are not private.

I’ve had issues where it wasn’t finding the film/series metadata, having plugin issues, and being incredibly slow (slow UI when anything is being done, slow scanning folders, slow loading saved metadata, etc). Jellyfin, like a lot of open source software, feels like jank. The devs know about a lot of issues, but they’re swamped with so much, with this big of a project.
People criticise Plex, rightfully so with some of their bad decisions, but it still works better. For me, Plex runs so much better, and without issues. I won’t be moving away to Jellyfin in the foreseeable future, but I’ll be glad when I am able to.

I haven’t gave it a second thought since its release. The power of social media marketing, I guess.
If you’ve never seen Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, I’d encourage you instead to take a look at Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz, both really good movies.

Platform27@lemmy.mlto Dungeons and Dragons@lemmy.world•Do abilities like familiars, and scribe wizard's manifest minds etc make scouting/dungeons unfun? Where's the narrative tension?1·2 years agoFor reference Invisibility would make you invisible, but you still can be detected by sound, smells, tracks, etc. it’s not an instant win, for stealth. As such, you get advantage on Stealth checks.
Spell aside, have you considered other game systems? Something that doesn’t use dungeons? There are many around, some are more RP oriented, some more base building/strategy oriented, and so on. I say this because a dungeon crawl is a classic experience for D&D, I mean it’s right in the name.
Platform27@lemmy.mlto Dungeons and Dragons@lemmy.world•Do abilities like familiars, and scribe wizard's manifest minds etc make scouting/dungeons unfun? Where's the narrative tension?1·2 years agoTrue, but I was thinking more in a dungeon, where a simple door, can block them (or make them take a completely different, unique route. Also note that invisible creatures still need to make Stealth checks, usually more than one.
Platform27@lemmy.mlto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•target seed ratio = max{1, 1/current ratio}English22·2 years agoNo. Here’s a pretty good explanation from the qBittorrent forums:
Your ratio is what percentage you have given back to others of what you have taken. For example, if you download something, and have a .5 ratio on that file, that means you’ve shared back half of what you’ve taken.
Ideally, you should strive to always seed to 1.0 meaning you have given back the same amount that was taken. In an ideal world, this would assure that no torrent ever has to die. Private trackers may have more specific rules about what ratio you must maintain, either overall (across all torrents you download) and/or on each individual torrent you grab. Check the specific trackers you participate on for their rules.
If you deal exclusively with public trackers, then 1.0 should be your minimum goal.
Personally, I’d put your ratio at 2.0, if you have the available data allowance, and bandwidth. Help others like you’ve been helped, even on public trackers.

Platform27@lemmy.mlto Dungeons and Dragons@lemmy.world•Do abilities like familiars, and scribe wizard's manifest minds etc make scouting/dungeons unfun? Where's the narrative tension?7·2 years agoI think it depends. Entities in a potentially hostile area can still detect the Familiar, or Manifested Mind. I think it’s unlikely they’ll make it past 1/2 rooms, never mind an entire dungeon undetected. The entities are likely seeing this as a hostile action, and now know that there is someone nearby. They will prepare, and potentially make the situation worse for the PCs.
Edit: Should also note that abilities like Manifest Mind is VERY up to interpretation. It has no stat block, and is very limited. It can hover just above the ground, not fly, and cannot pass through objects. In other words it cannot do skill checks, cannot pass a closed door, and because it sheds light, it’s a beacon for creatures to detect.
Platform27@lemmy.mlto Jellyfin: The Free Software Media System@lemmy.ml•Help with offgrid (power but no internet) streamingEnglish29·2 years agoYou might have better luck with Jellyfin, than Plex. Plex uses online authentication tools, which is used for not just user, but server management. In contrast, Jellyfin can be ran completely locally.
Now one thing to note is that neither solution will properly detect your media files properly. You’d need to manually input file details. Usually these servers would do a quick online search, to detect that your movie is what it is. You could import this data, but you’d need an internet connection to acquire it. If you do not mind all that busy work, then you should be fine.
Now the remote… honestly, no idea. I’m pretty sure Android TV has a button remapper app, which might help… Do modern Chromecasts use Android TV? I haven’t used them since their second generation. Best do some research yourself, or wait for another reply.

Now after seeing this… alright, I’m on board. Just… please… let me shoot a certain PM, responsible for Brexit. Give him the Gary treatment, so I can do it over, and over, and over, again… oh god, he’ll be one of the faction leaders, won’t he? The Nat-C (National Conservatives) party will be the radroaches of the game.

Between all the worlds, timelines, deities, there’s just so much. It’s fleshed out, but very daunting.

Platform27@lemmy.mlto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Recommended linux variant for gaming.English22·2 years agoSome people like to rag onto Canonicals bad decisions. These include:
- Putting ads in the terminal
- Use of Affiliate links in the DE
- The forceful use of Snap
- The proprietary Snap infrastructure
- The feeling of being abandoned, in favour of the server market (lack of desktop innovation)
- Lens search, that allows company (eg: Amazon) tracking.
- Anti-privacy settings enabled, by default.
Having it open source, does not make it good. I think I’d prioritise making it fun, try to.make a profit, and then open sourcing it. I don’t think having it open source will help you sell copies… you might sell less. Make your money first, have a feasible business strategy, so you don’t go bust. Then try to keep the game alive vis open sourcing it.
