The people you’re interacting with are, which would have been pretty intuitive if you noticed what comm you’re in given what’s happening here, and it’s not anyone else’s failing that you didn’t realize where you’re at, or the context of the interaction. I can appreciate your knowledgable contribution to the discussion. And at the same time, it was not at all unreasonable for someone to understand you to be talking about the major event that just happened for a huge population, and that will likely affect the entire planet, particularly with respect to climate.

I don’t expect it feels relevant to everyone what just happened in our election. But it does have the potential to be a major global historical event, over which a lot of people are presently hurting, and this community is very explicitly about hope, a thing that is hard to come by for many right now, even if you are not one of them.

Using reference to get a feel for real landscapes or backgrounds will make for great practice, even if realistic backgrounds aren’t what you’re aiming for!

Yes, but the election of a fascist to the highest public office in one of the world superpowers is a global event that literally JUST happened, which is why this community has seen a massive increase in activity.

The community is explicitly about having hope. Showing up in the comments to explain why you think “actually sometimes things are just permanently fucked” when a huge population is desperately trying to maintain hope is pretty discompationate whether you think this affects you or not, and to be perfectly frank it probably does. The election of Hitler was not just a German issue. The election of Mussolini was not just an Italian issue.

The whole point about this space is to maintain hope. Don’t show up and tell people “actually it might just be hopeless” and then act surprised when someone whose country just elected a fascist and is hurting and afraid, doesn’t appreciate your comment.

Lol, that does sound like a great time. I’ve always found shooting is a bit like swimming for me, it’s usually really boring by myself but a really nice activity when it with other folks.

Skeet shooting I think I could do for hours before I get bored though, it’s just a lot more dynamic and engaging. Someday I’ll have to see if I can go again some time :)

And yeah, that’s a big part of the appeal for me. It just seems like a physically fun object to operate. And it’d be nice to be a little more connected to the process that feeds me and able to fully appreciate that a life was lost so that I could be fed, instead of just buying it neatly packaged up in styrofoam and plastic in a fluorescent lit store.

Do you mean for practical purposes, or just fun? I feel like I’d be very conscious that I’m burning through a lot of money 😅

Mostly I’m just interested in maybe someday going hunting once a year and sharing the meat with some folks since I think it’s more ethical than industrial agriculture, and I think there’s value in being more connected to the processes that feed you. If an animal is gonna die so that I can feed myself I feel like it’s healthy to be willing to confront that and appreciate the life that was sacrificed for my needs.

Going to the range every once in a while could be nice, but I’m usually not awake during the day due to a sleep disorder, so ranges aren’t open, and it’s not worth screwing up my sleep just to stand in a spot and shoot a piece of paper. And it seems like a good way to blow through a lot of money’s worth of ammo 😅

Have you been skeet shooting? I’ve only done it once but skeet shooting is maybe the most fun I’ve ever had with a gun

Most of my experience shooting is with a handgun, or a 22 rifle. I’ve only shot a scoped rifle once but I didn’t find that super engaging. I also scoped myself cause it was set up for someone way bigger than me, and then tried not to cry in front of the other kids I was in scouts with 😂

I was just chatting with the guy who runs the armed queers comm about wanting a lever gun someday to eventually try hunting though, and I expect I’d put a scope on that

Honestly the most fun I’ve had shooting handguns was my grandpas target revolver. The 22 handgun I had the opportunity to shoot was a neat object, but I didn’t find it all that fun 🤷‍♂️

I always figured if get a rifle I’d want it to be a lever gun, they seem like a lot of fun and the space cowboy builds folks do are super cool!
