To be accurate, we spent about 95% of that wandering around in the dirt before it occurred to some of us that we could stay in one place and maybe grow stuff there.

For me, that reality provides necessary context for why we are the way we are. En masse, we are not nearly as intelligent or impressive as we believe we are. IMHO even the best of us only have glimmers of sapience.

The fact that Israel is doing what it’s doing, Germany is doing what it’s doing(its far right is on the rise again as well), and we’re doing what we’re doing despite being the first human lifespan where we have literal video and photographic records and testimony of past atrocities really gives me disdain for my own species.

As a species, We seem to either be incapable of or refuse to retain the lessons of history beyond a single human lifespan. That’s quite limiting.

I hear you, and that’s a valid point, but I see that more as a function of our insatiable need for the primary driver of our destruction: growth/metastasis.

Growth is precisely what is destroying us. We need to find homeostasis with this world. We need to slow down, stop expanding supply chains, and work on making what powers these 100% clean first and foremost. Because right now, most electrics are functionally dirty too, their pollution just happens higher up the chain.

We won’t do that of course, because the reality is most people in the developed world need to accept that wasteful things like fast food, ridiculous amounts of meat, and plastic that serves no necessary purpose, everything from pop figures to disposable water bottles available to people with reusable vessels out of convenience, need to be made illegal yesterday if we want our species to have a decent future.

But our creature comforts are more important to us, and we will punish any politicians that try to call for genuine sacrifice. 🔥🤷🔥

I love my wife, she can’t drive for shit though, nor does she respect vehicle maintenence, much less asthetic care.

Also, she’s literally told me she’d be afraid to drive my car precisely because I keep it so nice and she doesn’t want to be responsible for fucking it up.

It’s a Tesla problem in that it is a bumrushing tech that hasn’t matured for what it’s being used for because profit motive.

And no, if the tech isn’t mature to be both useful AND safe in the event of failure operating in the world, it belongs in the lab, not up for sale.

We shouldn’t be mass producing any vehicles that become bombs/environmental disasters that standard fire and rescue can’t appropriately address with reasonable tools upon crashing, because they inevitably will.

Its a market capitalism problem. Fire, ready, aim because rush the pos to sale. Musk is certainly a standard bearer as a prominent “get government and society’s wellbeing out of the way of my quarterly profit expectations” asshole sociopath capitalist.

This is probably the number one reason I’d be giddy about it.

Our species desperately needs to learn some humility. We’re literally destroying our only habitat out of blind arrogance and greed.

If they did, at some point they’re still going to need to use corrective action on our arrogant monkey asses.

As an adult, it’s the biggest plothole in Trek to me. Species so far ahead of us taking our lead only a couple hundred years after we took a break bombing each other and managed to cobble together a single, shitty warp drive a Vulcan toddler could probably improve the design of at a casual glance. If there was a consortium of species, at our stage we’d correctly need to beg to get provisional Jr. membership after 1,000 years of probationary observation.

They really shouldn’t take us until our species agrees to stop letting people starve while others grow obese just to get the fat sucked out of them to do it again.

We as a people, culture, and society are frankly too selfish and horrible to do something as decent as that. Not our fault, we’ve been and continue to be conditioned by the owners to be a nation of irredeemable wannabe sociopaths at each other’s throats, but the fact remains that’s who we are.

Enjoy the cesspool, where greed/sociopathy is our only practiced value, and watching our poorie kids kill poorie kids (because this never happens at the nepo baby private schools) is our national pastime.

Not like we became horrible or anything, we always were. We’re a nation built by slaves owned by religious zealots on top of a genocide(of people who lived in homeostasis with the earth instead of actively setting it on fire) who’s top exports are tools of volume murder and blueprints for other nations to better exploit their citizenry for their elite’s private profit, not like there was ever any grace to lose.

Oh but hey the Axis sunk our pacific fleet once and we fought back after we were attacked which apparently makes us virtuous heroes(?) or something.

What do you expect? Greed is our culture’s only practiced core value.
