i think that it’s a manifestation of the ruling class’ privilege to do things like this outside their imperial core, secure in the knowledge that they would never face the same kind of recrimination that would cause problems for someone like me despite also being an american.

Yeah, and they probably weren’t even arrested, but escorted back to their hotel. I could be wrong, just haven’t heard of any arrests.
