Reading this plus remembering how the Geordies were making fun of us signing him makes me chuckle. They were slating him as a reject because they felt he under-impressing while he was at Newcastle.
Maybe… Just maybe… Merino wasn’t the problem. Apart from the fact that he was in a new country, maybe the fact that you had a mediocre manager back then (Steve Bruce!) and a shithead owner (Mike Ashley!) who couldn’t give Merino the coaching insight and support he needed to improve was a factor?
Also, he was there 6 years ago… players change. I mean fuck, in 6 years I expect Emile and Reiss to score bangers against us. I would never describe either as an Arsenal reject.
