If libraries didn't exist, and someone tried to invent them, I am confident that conservatives would fight them tooth and nail with a thousand bad reasons.

You say this like they aren't doing it already, filing complaints against hundreds of books at a time that none of them have read
Just mention that Benjamin Franklin invented libraries, and they might shut up.
Ha! That communist?! /s
Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
One of the favorite and often mis-quoted lines for right-wingers. The context here is kind of funny, since it's basically pro-taxation.
I do like misquoting it though to promote privacy, but that has nothing to do with the actual context of the quote.
Now if only we could apply this to housing, food, education, etc.
Dream come true. Alas, capitalism
People used to think that feudalism would last forever.
The names changed but I'm still just a serf toiling in the field for my master
Everyone should get a library card! If you can’t physically make it to your local library, this may help:
https://www.howtogeek.com/663812/how-to-sign-up-for-a-library-card-from-home/
After you get your library card go sign up for Libby! Free books and audiobooks from your phone/device.
And if your library provides access to Hoopla, there's also free movies and manga.
They also often have ebooks/movies/tv shows available.
Yes! I signed up for my local library! Their ebook system is well... Subpar... So I also signed up for my parents local library in another state and can now use libby! It's amazing!
Yup, libraries rock, use them.
That is all.
No no, libraries paper, not rock. Paper beats rock.
And what are libraries built on? Rocks (in the foundation). Check mate. Get outta here with your scissors.
Libraries and education are an investment even for a capitalist. The only beneficiaries of lacking both are religious slave states.
Indeed, there have been studies that education is one of the highest RoI investments a country can make.
For oligarchy they are not, since economic development reduces the oligarch's power, which is a thing relative to the total size of economy. Same with social power.
I feel this way about food, housing, and healthcare (I include dental and mental or wtf are we doing?)…
Unlike food, water, shelter, electricity and education
I know it's not a solution, but the libraries where I live provide water, shelter, bathrooms, and outlets to charge a phone when they're open. They keep longer hours and serve as cooling/heating centers during heatwaves and cold snaps, and host agents from a number of supportive services a couple of days a week. I know it's not their job, and that there should be dedicated, fully funded solutions for these things, but some library systems are trying very hard to meet people's needs where other government services aren't.
Wow! Thanks for sharing
wait those arent human rights???? in my business term 1 first day class they kept emphasising that the basic needs are those???? does the un do ANYTHING????????
And yet we still burn the books
Yep they are awesome, especially Hoopla for comics. Anyone have a subscription to the Marvel/DC comic apps? If you have a library card, you can sign up for Hoopla for free and check out comics.
