    The nominees were:

    • “X-Men ’97” (Disney+)
    • “The Simpsons” (Fox)
    • “Blue Eye Samurai” (Netflix)
    • “Bob’s Burgers” (Fox)
    • “Scavengers Reign” (HBO)

From my outsider’s perspective, this was a battle between Blue Eye Samurai and Scavengers Reign, with Netflix willing to put the weakest promo campaign behind Blue Eye Samurai winning out over HBO letting the superior Scavengers Reign utterly hang out to dry (after giving the series screening rights up to Netflix after all).

Out of the nominated shows the winner most likely would be Blue Eye Samurai or Scavengers Reign. Blue Eye Samurai won because Netflix did a small amount of advertising for it. Scavengers Reign is better but HBO Max did not advertise for it at all.

It is not that good. I hate when they hide the action because it is clear the hero would not survive.

I wouldn’t have minded it that much if they didn’t have a walking talking reminder that some of that shit doesn’t grow back.

That said… Scavenger’s Reign should have won.

The quality of animation in those two Anime is high but fairly common, though more so in movies than in series. The quality of animation in BES is very rare, and very cinematic, and I can’t recall anything in recent years that looks anything like it.

Never mind how well written and directed it is.

What are you talking about. The show is a boiler plate revenge type history in comparison with original fantasy anime exploring what it means to be human and a period crime drama with a compelling female lead pinging off an interesting supporting cast. BES is fast food.

Neither of those series were nominated for this award. I imagine they weren’t due to not meeting eligibility requirements (release dates, platforms, spoken languages… dunno).

Probably one of the few Americans watched. Netflix and so on. Dub on day 1

I don’t personally get the appeal. Based on all the recs I tried it out but had to tap out after 3 episodes of weaboo cringe.
