We have to get two tablets, because there is not one large enough for his weight.

The pricing is rough but any vet is going to prefer you be on prevention regardless of where you get it than not.

Simparica Trio is a good product. So is Bravecto, though doesn’t cover heartworm.

Honestly, the dermatitis, skin infections, intestinal parasites, and heartworm that comes from not being on prevention is one of the most depressing and frustrating aspects of working in vet med. Too many dogs have died early and miserable. I hate how expensive it is too, but the long term costs both financially and to quality of life to NOT being on prevention are so much worse.

He also takes sentinel, which he now does as yearly injections, which helps cover the heartworm prevention. I may have found an alternative source for the Bravecto that is discounted about 40%, but I’ll have to wait a few months now to try it out.

I’m mostly just annoyed that the distributors of Bravecto seem to be charging roughly the same amount per animal, regardless of weight. Excepting, of course, instances like mine, where I’m forced to buy a second tablet due to their limited range of available doses. Lucky me, paying double simply for having a large dog.

Try Costco pharmacy as well. It’s a bit hit and miss. Some are like 20% less than chewy others are about even.

The 88-123lbs is $5.00 cheaper from Chewy, if you set it up on auto-ship you’ll save another two dollars. My vet is trying to get me to switch to something they call Trio with heartworm, flea and something else in one dose. I obviously need to do a bit more research.

I now use the trivecatrio (sp?), it’s only $35/month from my vet. It’s for fleas, heart worm and parasitic worms. I will never again go without heart worm medicine as my boy I just got heart worm and the medicine to get rid of it runs $1200. And they must be kept calm for 3 months during treatment. It totally sucks!

This all has to do with the distributors, bravecto any size is $83 where I work, it used to be $73. In the long run its still better than the stuff that’s been out in the market for a long time now.
