Iraq’s government has been under pressure to expel the US since January 2020, when a US drone strike in Baghdad killed Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani and PMF leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. After the strike, the Iraqi parliament voted to expel US forces, but the US refused to leave.

Why do we need troops in Iraq when we have an ally like Israel in the area?

I thought the entire point of Israel is that US has a foothold in the region? Why do we have bases in Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Kuwait?

Why have 2 of anything?

Probably something about not having all your eggs in one basket.

[–] Aqarius@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Yeah, but after a certain number of baskets, it turns from using baskets to store eggs, to using eggs to mark baskets.

Why have over 800 military bases around the world?

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's my point ... We really don't need israel to be america. Fuck these genocidal savages let them stand on their own after they are done milling off gazans!

[–] Blursty@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Probably just cultural hegemony. American liberals see Israelis as "white" so they'll back them to the hilt. Christian fascists see them as ushering in the end times. No president wants to be the one that lost that foothold in the ME. Probably a lot of people in power directly benefit from bribery or are at risk of losing a lot via blackmail. Like Bill Clinton was.

Yet they defend the people and the system that oppresses them en masse.

That's what happens when bootlickers do the enforcement for the regime...

American citizen is so poorly efucated, they can't name who opresses them or rules them lol

Because Israel's interest doesn't align with the US perfectly?

[–] Blursty@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 2 months ago

Really? Do you have an example of this?

The current season of the In the Dark podcast is examining a likely-illegal mass killing in Haditha, Iraq, by USA marines in 2005. I recommend it to anyone who’s interested in serious investigative journalism.

A lot of us saw this happening way back in 2003. US is not going to leave.
