Tankies are funny in the way that they manage to be simultaneously extreme left and extreme right
Back when it was on reddit the politics of chapostraphouse pretty much confused the fuck out of me. This image here is a good example. Nobody who is “left” or even “lib” would think that trump is anything but a lying criminal fascist douchebag, and would strongly question his motives for “ending the Korean war”, which seemed to be clumsily attempting to cozy up to a brutal dictator who he admired. So what are they talking about? Who knows. I don’t think they really know.
Authoritarianism is a helluva drug. Almost like it’s apolitical or something.
Red fash. Just the far-right with a coat of red paint. The difference between Stalinists and Strasserists is mostly just the level of racism.
And they are both anti-semites.
Frighteningly often. I have some tankie memes I have saved displaying their antisemitism, for whenever I forget that they’re shitheads on all fronts, not just a few. They’re… not pretty.
I mean, as much as I hate invoking it because of PCM - that’s kind of the idea behind the political compass.
Instead of just left-right, there’s also up-down where “up” is in favor of centralized power and “down” is in favor of decentralized power.
Tankies just value authoritarianism more than they value the traditional left-right dynamic. They prefer politics near the top of the political compass, even if those politics aren’t in alignment to the left/right of their own.
As the horsehoe theory which came out of it that political compass is garbage though, constructed by right wing libertarians as a propaganda tool for their ideology, it doesn’t reflect actual political theories.
