Appeals court tells Texas it cannot ban books for mentioning ‘butt and fart’

Conservative-dominated court restores books denounced by officials as ‘pornographic filth’ to school libraries

An appellate court has ruled that Texas cannot ban books from libraries simply because they mention “butt and fart” and other content which some state officials may dislike.

The fifth US circuit court of appeals issued its decision on Thursday in a 76-page majority opinion, which was written by Judge Jacques Wiener Jr and opened with a quote from American poet Walt Whitman: “The dirtiest book in all the world is the expurgated book.”

In its decision, the appellate court declared that “government actors may not remove books from a public library with the intent to deprive patrons of access to ideas with which they disagree”.

Yeah. They (pretend to) consider the kind of things that children (and many adults) find more hilarious than anything else “pornographic filth” and racial and ethnic slurs protected speech.

These people are literally mentally unwell authoritarian bigots.

Almost the entirety of what my kids find funny is just adding ‘poopy’, ‘pee’, butt’, and ‘fart’ to sentences. If there is a god, I’m pretty sure they could’ve found less funny ways for us to expel gases and bodily waste than the current system (though we’d still joke about it).

We now live in a world where a news article needs to contain this line. (and this is far from the only recent example)

    Think about that.

Okay, I have to ask…what the Chicken McFucknuggets is that a thumbnail of? Even full screen, I can’t figure it out. It looks like a bare ass shot from underneath on the left side, but the right cheek looks off. Also, I know The Guardian is a shit rag, but I can’t imagine they’d just be posting bare ass pics like that with their articles.

It’s the marble ass of a statue 😁

Also, I know The Guardian is a shit rag,

Nah, they’re usually pretty good. With some notable exceptions.

I can’t imagine they’d just be posting bare ass pics like that with their articles

It’s not a real ass and even if it was, so what? Would you consider that “pornographic filth”? 🙄

Okay noted, but how is it oriented? Is ass crack of the statue the diagonal like going down and to the left from the top right? If so, then why does the left butt cheek look so round and the right one so flat? It’s just a really weird camera orientation, my brain can’t grok it.

My guess is that the disparity comes from the muscle working differently with each leg. For example by one leg being bent and the other straight. Possibly some leaning and/or sitting too 🤷

Autistic and having a hard time parsing abstract images from weird camera angles, but thanks for the support. 👍
