A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Please don't post about US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Ok, what do I enter here in order to use that?
First go to https://my.nextdns.io/
Then register
And finally, follow the installation manual
That's all you have to do, it's already configured to block ads so you don't need to worry about that
How is NextDNS vs Adguard in terms of features and privacy
NextDNS is basically pihole as an actual DNS. You can configure your own blocklists and allowlists. They also provide pre-built blocklists, some even from AdGuard itself. As for privacy it supports encrypted DNS like DoH and allows you to choose the logging policy for your requests. You can have no logs, or some logs for a certain retention period (ex. 30 days). You can also choose which country your logs are stored in (ex. Switzerland). You can see your own logs and even analytics about your requests. There are loads of other features as well.
You can do this with AdGuard too.
I use mullvad
How has it been working out for you?
pretty good
I recommend using an IP address for your DNS lookups
Mega Chad!

Mullvad
Ok, what address do I put in for that one?
Pick your preference: https://mullvad.net/en/help/dns-over-https-and-dns-over-tls
Thanks!
Just want to add that Mullvad DNS may have high latency depending on where you're browsing from, slowing down your browsing experience. Their public DNS servers are pretty sparse, unlike their VPN servers.
Run a DNS benchmark tool that compares their response times for your device
I use dns.watch on pihole. Been working good so far!
Well, I don't have pihole, but I'm sure this will be helpful for someone!
mullvad is fine
Mullvad, or the best one is your own DNS.
