Growing up in the nineties, I rented (or my parents did) a lot of videogames. Namely for the PS1 and the Nintendo 64.
The village rental store would also be the place I effectively traded in games I didn’t want anymore (they also let you buy their older games).
What games did you used to rent when you were younger, and did you have any go-to games that you remember fondly?
I used to get these crappy “James Pond” games over and over. For the Sega Genesis.
Robo Cod!
I lived in a smaller town when i was younger and we rented video games from the grocery store. I recall n64 games on one side of a display rack, and vegetables on the other.
Our household used to rent RUSH 2049, Vigilante 8, and Gauntlet often. Many fun weekends to be had!
Sonic 2 and on were common rentals of mine. I also rented Dune Battle for Arrakis a lot. I finally purchased a copy in the early 00s. But I think the game I rented the most was Another World, and there was another one of similar concept around the same time (which I think was a genesis exclusive) that I rented a lot.
I think you may mean Flashback, which was one that I definitely spent some time with during rental weekends.
That is the one!
Kirby and the crystal shards on N64 was my JAM back then
My cousin and I used to rent Guerilla War for the NES just about every weekend. As an adult, I bought the game just purely out of nostalgia.
Similarly, I remember I rented Donkey Kong Jr (also NES) so often that my dad eventually bought it for me just to save on rental fees.
For the N64, my go-tos were Bomberman 64 and Smash Bros.
We used to rent a Genesis I think, with some kind of off-road buggy game? Good times.
