India Is Using Technology To Give 1.4 Billion People Access To Healthcare::India’s success in providing universal healthcare coverage is a remarkable feat.
Aside from the fact this reeks of nationalist propaganda, this is pretty so-so news?
Like what, they’re creating a national system for healthcare providers to communicate better.
Sure any gains in efficiency will have a positive effect, especially at Indias scale - but this is hardly anything new or exciting. I’m surprised to see such fanfare for such a mundane IT improvement.
In terms of tech, yeah, it’s nothing special. But imagine having something like this in the US. Imagine being able to see which goods and services you received, how much you were charged per line item, what was and was not covered by insurance, and having the ability to interact with the various entities directly.
Again, from the tech side, you could do it with some basic Spring Boot shit, but actually getting the manpower and various organizations to integrate into a such a system is genuinely impressive. If the US had such a system, it would likely become a driving force in fixing the healthcare system… hence why it will never happen. The impressive part is the government backing and incentivization of private organizations to integrate into it.
It’s not an impressive tech solution. It is an impressive political and organizational solution.
But fuck Modi for other reasons

Yeah, you couldve done someting to not end up with 1.4 billion people.
You’re right! Genocide or mass birth control would be so much better than giving everyone access to healthcare!
Its not about healthcare. There is also this whole finite resources problem.
I’m pretty sure India uses less resources than usa or Europe
If you’re worried about resources, point your complaints towards the US.
