Hey everyone!
Nothing major today but just a request from you all going forward:
Given with the nature of how federation works between kbin and Lemmy (and everything else lol), kbin’s attachment function does not (yet) seem to push images out to Lemmy. As such any comment where a kbin user uses the ‘Add Media’ button to include a photo essentially shows up completely blank for Lemmy users. (Example)
At least until this is resolved by Ernest, please use Imgur (or another photohost of your choice) and link the picture you wish in the comment. This way everyone gets to see the content and our Lemmy users don’t get left out (specially from the laughs of our Meme Monday threads, that’s some good shit, pal). You can choose to still use the kbin ‘Add Media’ function if you want to, just make sure to include a direct link also.
Given how quick development has been moving as of late I doubt this will be a long term issue so we shouldn’t need to make a full on rule of it (yet) but we can address that if it comes to it.
Note: The above does not count for the Microblog, Lemmy users don’t have access to it anyway, but feel free to put imgur links there should you want to lol.
Carry on!
Edit: Ernest commented below - The image issue looks to be a Lemmy issue, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Fingers crossed it’ll be fixed at some point.
Images definitely worked with Lemmy, I tested it multiple times some time ago. It still works with Mastodon and other platforms, so something broke after one of Lemmy’s changes. I’ll take a closer look in a few hours to see if I can fix something on my end. I’ll fix the counter as well ;)
If we get user tags at some point I am gonna tag you Beetlejuice cause boom, there ya are :P
If it’s anything related to Lemmy’s software version (I seem to recall that can cause issues with compatibility to us?) for extra info, the 2 lemmy instances I’m using when checking (lemmy.zip and dbzer0) both look to be on 0.18.5 of their software.
It definitely seems to be a recent change, because I was able to see images in threads previously, but I can’t on the latest Meme Monday thread on either of the instances I use (lemmy.blahaj.zone and midwest.social, both on 0.18.5). Could definitely be a reversion in either the Kbin or Lemmy software.
I can’t tell you exactly when it broke, because the app I usually use (Eternity) doesn’t support inline images.
There have been no recent changes in this area in /kbin. It seems that Lemmy instances have completely lost connectivity with the rest of the world. Test comments written on Mastodon in lemmy post are not federated.
Oof
it works, there are delays. I will continue testing in a moment
Yep, images attached to Mastodon post also do not display in Lemmy comments. I’m afraid I won’t be able to do anything about it on my end. I’ll report the bug to the Lemmy devs, although they’ve probably already noticed it.
Thank you for looking into it at least!
So that’s why none of my dick pics have been getting upvotes in /boysgonewild! For a second there I was getting really self-conscious.
I’m good with everything. If I don’t do it in the next meme thread, know that it’ll be out of forgetfulness not malice.
Does anyone know of any good image hosting sites that don’t require an account? Imgur’s probably the easiest to use but I don’t feel like creating an account for it.
I checked, imgur doesn’t need one. Just head to imgur.com/upload and it takes it and will give your url even when not logged in.
Awesome. I’ll fiddle with it when I get a little more free time…and I’ll see if I can update the current meme thread so everyone can see it.
Yay! I can finally enjoy Meme Monday as it happens!
Huh, so it does work on posts but not in comments?
This thread and its image shows up fine in lemmy:
https://kbin.social/m/SquaredCircle/t/660788
https://sh.itjust.works/post/9994142Haven’t hunted down a comment to check.
For comment chains that already exist, anyone on lemmy can hit the fediverse icon if they encounter such a thread to browse it from kbin too.
Yeah they do seem to work fine if it’s the thread itself, even on the 2 lemmy instances that I can’t see them in the comments on. It’s weird lol
