    I made the mistake of RTFA.

    I had one question based on the headline:

    What is a ‘premature’ death?

    It was undefined, so how could anyone say it caused more or less of anything?

    Dodgy study aside. I’m a country bumpkin who makes it to the city every few months and I have memories from years ago of waiting next to a bunch of cars stopped at a stop light and thinking about how much it stank. Fast forward to more modern times and it’s not nearly as bad. This is just a guess but my thoughts are between stop-start and EV/HEV cars there are a lot less fumes in general at stopped traffic, which is great.

    There’s no real point I’m trying to make, I just think it’s nice.

    Jesus christ I started reading the study - they didn’t examine any deaths or sicknesses or anything, they literally just took Australia measure of these pollutants and used that to come up with the number of deaths based on what other countries and studies have said their numbers were hahahahaha

    Throw this “study” in the bin where it belongs. It didn’t try to ascertain if any deaths can actually be attributed to car exhaust gases etc, they just say it’s fact and did some basic maths to get a number. The state of academics is a disgrace.

    What a ridiculous “study”. They basically just go “oh a relatively young person died of heart disease? Yeah that’s from cars polluting the air, count them”

    These pollutants cause inflammation, contribute to heart and lung disease, and are linked to other health problems such as diabetes and asthma.

    Would love to know who commissioned and paid for the “study”.
