Good news, comrades! The future is here — and it looks a lot like 1985.

Senior lawmaker Vladimir Gutenev, who also heads the State Duma’s Industry and Trade Committee, recently urged Russians to prepare for “regular and necessary” internet shutdowns.

“We’re used to paying with cards or smartphones and having constant connectivity,” he said. “But now it’s important to accept temporary restrictions as a necessity.”

Then, with a patronizing jab, Gutenev added: “Don’t turn into a hipster who only lives in the centre of Moscow. Life is not limited to comfort.”

The reason? National security, of course.

Also, Ukrainian drones.

Also, because we said so.

So, forget your cards, your banking apps, your streaming services. The Motherland demands cash payments, offline living and an end to all this whining about modern comforts.

This comes from the Russian government.

You can look it up yourself - in Russia and elsewhere - using the [Shutdown Tracker Optimization Project](Shutdown Tracker Optimization Project):

According to Russian internet monitoring project Na Svyazi, authorities shut down the internet more than 650 times in June alone, most frequently in the cities of Nizhny Novgorod, Saratov, Tula, Omsk, and Rostov.

There is ample evidence that the Russian government frequently shuts down the internet, and this is said not by some media but the Kremlin itself.

      Addition:

Mapping Russia’s Internet blackouts: The Russian authorities keep shutting down mobile Internet. Here’s where it happens most, and how the outages are spreading.

I’m no big fan of Russia, but the paper does read as strong propaganda. Any country with a slight conflict risk -and russia is at war- should prepare for internet shutdowns. It’s no shocker they advise to be ready to get the cash out.

I never said it was talking out of his ass.

        propaganda does not mean lies.

when BBC persian (media arm of government of England under command of foreign minister) says something about my country (Iran) it doesnt have to lie to spread propaganda.

you can see it in headlines.

when Iranian say some thing the source is before the info and it usually say something like: Iranians claim that “usa attacked them”

when jewish Isis kills Palestinians and then claim that they are khamas members, then BBC title will be : “hamas members killed in missle attacks , israel claims.”

you don’t have to lie to deceive people.
