No pressure sensitivity is a deal breaker for me.
As is for literally everyone. This makes the new pencil nearly on par with the ones you can pick up from 7/11.
And they still can’t get the charging port right 🙃
It’s not a deal breaker for me. I always turn pressure sensitivity off - because I can’t get lines that look nice (as in, consistent width) with it enabled.
What’s wrong with the charging port? At least it has one, unlike the old pencil which I tend not to use because the battery is always empty. With this one I could charge it when I’m not using it, and it’ll always be ready to go.
TLDR; charging with usb-c (wired), not pressure sensitive, $79.- …
I love how long time government mandates have become a feature 🙃
The “value” pencil doesn’t work with the 9th gen iPad which is their value iPad. Makes sense /s
So it doesn’t charge when magnetically attached to the iPad? The second gen did, didn’t it?
This is more of a budget replacement for the original lightning pencil.
It’s $20 cheaper than the first gen and $50 cheaper than the second gen.
Thank you. I didn’t realize that it was cheaper because all of the prices in articles are not in my local currency.

Yes, the 2nd gen pairs and charges while magnetically attached.
Something something blame usb-c please -apple
Nice naming Apple! I wonder what would be wrong with Apple Pencil lite or something
And while it is cheaper, it’s still pretty expensive to give up the pressure sensor
Apple will never market something as “lite” or “budget” or “less than Pro™fessional”
They could’ve gone with Apple Pencil SE.
Marketing department taking a nap, it seems.
“Yeah, we made the first one a little cheaper by removing some features and changing the charger. It’s totally new and innovative. Gib Geld“
this is so much better than having the whole pencil hang out of your tablet. Only took them 3 tries to get it right
Seems like a pretty serious downgrade to me. I have no interest in separately charging it when it works perfectly well as is.
Magnetic charging doesn’t work at all for me. When I’m using the iPad, the pencil gets in the way. When I’m not using the iPad, it’s usually in my bag and then the pencil falls off.
The 1st Gen pencil worked better for me, with the little adapter so it could be charged with a lightning cable - but it’s not compatible with the latest iPads.
Likewise. That’s a poor design choice when wireless charging on the iPad is already a thing. No desire at all to get this.
Is it part of EU compliance?
Why does the iPad 9th Generation and original Apple Pencil still exist?!
It won’t for much longer, which is the point of this Pencil.
The new, affordable, apple pencil: $79
I think that’s what I paid for a Surface Stylus five years ago, so idk. Not bad.
No pressure sensitivity being the biggest missing feature. It’s fine to have options, but once the Lightning Pencil inevitably dies off, the only option for pressure will be to upgrade both your pencil and iPad to a higher end model that supports Pencil 2nd Gen; there’ll be no lower cost option for Artists just starting out.
I mean, they’re going to be killing off the 9th gen iPad sometime soon anyway. At which point gettin an Air would be the best value for starting artists anyway since it’s only $150 more than the 10th gen and has much better performance.
Apple does not care in the slightest, and why would they. The know the peasants will continue to praise them for making the new gen stuff
