A woman allegedly held her “severely emaciated” stepson in captivity for over 20 years, since he was 11 years old, and forced him to endure “prolonged abuse."

Details to be aware of: Everybody knew there was a problem when this man was still in elementary school. He reported that food was withheld from him. Teachers would bring food for him to school. CPS was called 20 times. He’d been ordered to tell them that everything was fine. Then he just stopped coming to school. Everybody knew there was a problem. Nothing was done.

I hope he sues for the last 20 years of collective dental and medical. Also existing medical. And then on top of that, all the pain and suffering. That poor man. 20 years of abuse and neglect.

You can’t say nothing was done when so many people tried. He was let down by government agencies. Those are the people who need to be strung up.

5’9" and 68 lbs, that’s just mind-blowing. He’s got to be just a skeleton, no fat at all, no muscle left anywhere. I weighed more than that in grade school. I wonder if he can even walk? Holodomor vibes.

Well, she’s decided to prominently display that she’s a Christian with that cross there. So I guess we’re supposed to understand that she’s by definition a Good Person. Give her a slap on the wrist, admonish her to not be naughty, and let her go. Whatever she did is God’s Will after all.

Glad to see she’s wearing a cross around her neck. God must have told her to do it

If he didn’t, all she needs to do is “ask him for forgiveness” (aka literally just think to yourself, “I’m sorry Jesus.”), and she will get into heaven for all eternity! Good stuff.

I’ve had conversations with some religious people where they’ve basically stated that the only reason they don’t murder people is because of God and the Bible. Not the exact words, but basically that’s where all their ideas of morality come from. That’s fucking scary if the only thing holding people back is a fucking book. And not, you know, compassion and empathy.

if the only thing holding people back is a fucking book

that’s the mindset. they’re raised to believe that humans literally aren’t capable of being any definition of “good” without church. and even still, as mentioned above, you can pretty much do all the stealing, adultering, raping, murdering you please anyway as long as you “repent” and ask forgiveness. it’s all such a steaming truckload of horseshit

Sullivan’s lawyer defended his client and said it was the victim’s late father who was responsible.

“He was not locked in the room. She did not restrain him in any way. She provided food. She provided shelter. She is blown away by these allegations,” her lawyer, Ioannis Kaloidis, told New Haven ABC affiliate WTNH.

Kaloidis said the stepson’s late biological father “dictated how the boy would be raised.”

“We think as the evidence comes out, you will see she’s not the villain she’s being made out to be,” Kaloidis added.

Except the father died 9 months ago and was wheelchair bound in this two story house and this man was still being trapped inside. She also at no point in the past 20 years thought of reporting this to the authorities. What is this lawyer thinking making such ridiculous statements?

They’re grasping at straws because it is their job to defend her as best they can.

It really just goes to show that this is pretty much indefensible, but regardless of that it is their job to defend her. I’m glad I’m not a defense lawyer.

The 32-year-old was also found in a “severely emaciated condition and had not received medical or dental care” during his time in captivity inside the home over the past two decades, according to police.

Damn. Give that boy a cold beer and free dental for life.

Nah, Connecticut has a pretty robust social safety net compared to many states, and this guy is high profile so they’d never risk the bad press. He probably won’t need it though. He’s going to make a million doing the talk show circuits and publishing an autobiography. That’s the American way.

Is it bad to say, that as a man with no knowledge or experience with makeup, I do know that woman is worse at it than me?

I guess it’s hard to use the bathroom mirror, when the bathroom is a prison for someone…
