Sigh… leave it to Lemmy to turn a discussion about cannabis into complaining about Gaza again like in almost every other thread. Everyone knows about the genocide and how awful it is, but none of us can do anything about it right now and it’s not relevant to the topic at hand. Can we please have a discussion about other things without it just devolving into fighting over it?

Anyway, as a Canadian, our country hasn’t fallen into mass chaos and drug abuse despite cannabis being legalized. I’m sure the federal government loves the extra tax dollars, and we don’t need to buy from shady black market dealers so it’s usually safer. I hope America can learn from what we’re doing up north, cannabis shouldn’t be illegal.

pssst…it’s mostly Russians trying to manufacture an October surprise for Trump.

its weird how one day all the threads were about “Biden bad, Harris bad by-proxy, vote for anyone but Harris.”

My in laws used to get so mad at my wife for smoking pot. Recently they weren’t even a little mad to hear that I’d used it on a road trip as a replacement for Dramamine. They also have chilled the fuck out about other drugs since I described how lsd has improved my mental health.

Pot is just awesome. Best analgesic and antiemetic I can get otc, most fun one too

you sure showed me, now that you said that thing about trump (for some reason) im convinced this isnt a pittance thrown in to distract from her supporting the genocide (you know, the genocide? with the ethnic cleansing and the 80 year retributive war and all) as president, or what she plans to like, do about that whole like, sitch. “What’s that? You’re calling who? Ceasefire? Sorry I can’t hear you over all the sharply-pointed nothing that’s been doing. Ask me later when I’ve finished genociding all these people I’m trying to ethnic cleanse from their land im apartheiding.”

lets just get high about it, all that nakba stuff is really way too complex to understand anyway

miss me with the reply if its gonna be about trump fr fr

israel “respecting” the terms of a ceasefire (to which it was effectively indifferent) that in no way addressed the fundamental grievances of the palestenians: blockades, apartheid, land encroachment, property confiscation, eviction and demolition, restriction of food and other forms of aid, human rights violations, and violations of international law (collectively constituting a violent campaign of ethnic cleansing and annexation) doesnt constitute the benevolent nonviolent “respect” for peace you seem to be suggesting. nor does this campaign continuing during what some are pleased to call “ceasefire” suggest an interest in relieving those very real grievances, incompatible with a viable or, in evidence, peaceful palestinian society.

Lots of people making lots of assumptions tonight, huh?

I want the CIA to take out Bibi and his cabinet to be put down like the rabid dogs they are before the start WW3. I actively hope Israel is treated like the Nazis before them and we Nuremberg each and every IDF officer, soldier, and settler that has participated in the litany of war crimes that have taken place. I hope Israeli zionists get the same wake up call that the Nazi supporters after WW2. I hope the Americans that have been preaching support for the zionists are treated like the douche bags waving Nazi flags at Trump parades.

Do I think anyone not voting for Harris because of her lack of “sufficient calls for a ceasefire” are fucking morons? Yes. You are all fucking morons.

This is only a slight upgrade from the first two months of her candidacy, when she was just literally ignoring all the questions about Biden’s record, not putting a platform on her website, and repeating two memes over and over again.

That seems like identity politics. Her party is in power to make change now, yet they choose not to. I could spell it out, but Tucker Carlson would say it’s stickier to let them misunderstand it through their own bias.

Another election cycle, another useless pledge to legalize marijuana as a push to pander votes. She said this prior to running as Biden’s VP, then did nothing with her time in office.

Similarly, I recall similar propaganda from Trump in 2016 and 2020. Nothing came of that, either.

And yes, it’s tiring being this hopeful and this cynical at the same time.

Rescheduled from 1 -> 3. Not sure I understand the significance of this change other than to look like doing something without legalizing it.

How did Biden kick off the process that was designed to take more than 4 years? I actually didn’t know anything other than the push to reschedule.

Schedule 1 drugs are those deemed to have no medical use and have an extremely high likelihood for abuse. They are the first target for the DEA and have no legal use status (cannabis currently gets around this due to administration level memos to not interfere with state law, but that’s all)

Schedule 3 are those with accepted medical usage and a low or moderate likelihood for abuse. They need to be prescribed and need a prescription no older than 6 months to fill.

Essentially, if cannabis is moved to schedule 3, it becomes medically legal in all 50 states that don’t have specific laws outlawing its use (I don’t know if any of those exist). It’s a major step towards legalization and the biggest you can make without a law.

The big win from schedule 3 is ability for American researchers to study it legally and easily, on-shore. Obviously it doesn’t belong in the list with those other schedule 3s (ketamine and suboxone), but it is gonna be baby steps towards legalization so long as the powerful alcohol and private prison lobbies exist.

My fiancé studies cannabis in Canada, and making it legal didn’t really make it easier to study. Hopefully FDA makes it less of a nightmare than health canada did.

Even when it was illegal here, it was significantly less illegal than in the states; scientific and medical studies would have already been allowed.

It brings the conversation up to the national spotlight, and while it’s a half measure, it’s forward progress, which itself creates inertia that can bring about real change.

That’s what Biden’s current plan is.

It doesn’t go far enough for me, but it sets up his successor to take it even further. Which it sounds like is what she’s planning to do.

This is a bit more than trump. He would only drop vague comments during speeches. This is an official statement that follows bidens previous reschedule activity. So things are being done but intentionally slowly and not definitively. They can only drive it so slowly though so will happen if not derailed by someone else.

Hopefully the Republicans lose in a massive fucking landslide so their shitty beliefs and ideals that are used like hammers to hurt my fellow Americans and continue to send us into tailspins every fucking time they get involved or get power, along with the corrupt and illegitimate SCOTUS, can all eat a bag of dicks and then do us all a favor and die in a (figurative) fire together.

Maybe whatever party comes next out of their ashes will have some humanity and an IQ above room temperature for their representatives.
