Why does its UI look like a weird mix between iOS and Samsung OS?
/e/OS
A community about the /e/ Operating System developed by e Foundation.
/e/OS is a degoogled version of Android. It aims to be a good balance between privacy and usability. Forked from Lineage OS.
I think I read that the eOS founder really liked the iOS UI so they made a launcher to behave like it. I just installed the fairphone2 launcher and it works better.
I'm tempted to give this a go. I've got a Fairphone 5 which I've increasingly been using with non-Google services. Something I don't understand is that /e/OS is based on LineageOS, but my phone isn't supported by Lineage. I wish it was; that'd be a no-brainer.
In general, /e/OS is based on LOS, but the project decides which devices it supports.

/e/OS is not dependent on LineageOS in deciding which devices to support or stop supporting. We already have several devices which are not on the LineageOS supported list. We plan to port more devices to work with /e/OS code.
Maybe, to make things work, /e/OS team had direct help from Fairphone, as their OS is also somehow 'official', while LOS did not and still struggles.
The poor attempt at copying iOS design is cringe
I don’t think it’s cringe, or copying for that matter, I don’t see why transparency and blur should be seen as iOS exclusive. It’s the first Android UI I’ve seen that looked somewhat pleasant.
It'd be cringe if it locked you to a single launcher. I've been running /e/ on my last 2 phones and it's solid. Also easier to switch iOS users over. FWIW lawnchair 2 works great
