      It turns out I just needed to go to block 9,9 in the chunk, but thanks anyways man

        IIRC it’s always block 9,9 or one of a small number of predefined block locations within a chunk. Minecraft, like our own brains, cheats a little in making the magic happen.

    Sometimes the X is not quite at the spot. My guess is that it’s under the sand too the right on the first picture (possibly underwater).
